Salewa Cube Varese
Sports | Indoor sports facilities
A place to challenge yourself, share a passion and discover new ways to experience sport. This is the spirit of Salewa Cube Varese, the city’s first climbing gym entirely dedicated to sport climbing. Located within a new sports and leisure hub created through the redevelopment of a former sports facility in the San Fermo district, the venue has become a reference point for both experienced climbers and newcomers, thanks to an approach that makes climbing accessible to everyone in a contemporary, inclusive environment designed around comfort, innovation and sustainability.
Supporting this vision is an integrated GEWISS technology ecosystem, bringing together building automation, lighting and energy management within a single intelligent infrastructure. Choosing a complete GEWISS solution has ensured technological consistency and simplified facility management, resulting in a fully integrated building automation, electrical distribution and lighting system. The latter was developed in synergy with PERFORMANCE iN LIGHTING, which became part of the GEWISS Group in 2023. The entire installation was designed to meet the needs of a modern sports facility while supporting its future growth and evolution.
Integrated technology for intelligent building management
To support the operational and comfort requirements of Salewa Cube, an integrated technological ecosystem was implemented based on the KNX protocol, the international standard for building automation, combined with the DALI lighting control system. The seamless interoperability between KNX and DALI ensures flexibility, ease of management and energy efficiency, helping create environments that remain comfortable, safe and high-performing at all times.
The solution, based on GEWISS devices and the Thinknx supervision platform, enables centralized management and real-time monitoring of all the facility’s technological systems, from lighting and HVAC to ventilation and energy consumption control. The system also integrates climate regulation through the Airzone interface, allowing all environmental parameters to be monitored and managed directly from the supervision software.
The adopted building solutions also fully comply with the requirements established for BACS (Building Automation and Control Systems) in new constructions, helping optimize energy consumption through the automatic attenuation of building systems during periods of inactivity, without compromising thermal or lighting comfort during sporting activities.
Integration with the DALI protocol and PERFORMANCE iN LIGHTING luminaires allows advanced management of LED lighting systems, including dimming, dynamic scene creation and energy optimization according to the different activities taking place within the climbing and sports areas. The result is a smart and scalable installation that enhances the entire facility, improves the user experience and supports sustainability objectives while reducing operating costs through state-of-the-art technologies.
Tailored solutions for climbing facilities
Lighting quality is a particularly strategic element in a climbing gym. The climbing area is illuminated using SMART 4 2M HLO luminaires installed on GEWISS-Mavil cable management systems. This solution provides uniform, high-performance lighting that contributes both to user safety and visual comfort during sporting activities.
The multifunctional areas are equipped with NORMA+ watertight luminaires, SL764+ fixtures, and ELIA DL M2 OPAL and ELIA PL M2 600 OP recessed LED downlights. All installed luminaires are DALI-ready, enabling flexible and precise lighting management, including ON/OFF control and dimming functions. Field control is provided by GEWISS IP54 360° KNX ceiling-mounted presence and daylight sensors, ensuring lighting is always adapted to occupancy and environmental conditions.
Power distribution is based on GEWISS QDX electrical distribution boards, which also integrate Data Center components. Designed according to CEI standards and equipped with miniature circuit breakers and residual-current protection devices, the system delivers high levels of safety, reliability, circuit selectivity and modularity, while simplifying maintenance and supporting future expansions.
The installation is completed by MIMIK 20 luminaires in the bar area and CHORUS SMART plates in the reception and changing rooms, ensuring aesthetic and functional consistency throughout the facility.
An integrated model for the future of sport
The Salewa Cube Varese project demonstrates how building automation, intelligent lighting and energy management can converge into a single technological ecosystem capable of supporting new ways of experiencing sport and urban spaces. In this context, GEWISS goes beyond supplying technology solutions and takes on the role of Project Partner, supporting the customer throughout every stage of the project with an integrated and multidisciplinary approach. By combining electrical infrastructure, lighting, building automation, energy management and connected digital services into a scalable, value-driven proposition, GEWISS contributes to creating more efficient facilities capable of delivering an outstanding user experience.
